Riverwalk Café & Marketplace

With cold weather around the corner there is a growing need for grocery convenience among residents and a shift toward having markets on site. Deerfield was recently featured in Senior Dining News for our innovative updates to Riverwalk Café.

Deerfield has opened a new marketplace for residents. “Although we’ll be continuing to offer grocery delivery service as we have since the early stages of COVID, we’ll now be selling pre-made sandwiches, take-and-bake pizzas, and salads as well as deli meats, cheeses, and other essentials at our marketplace café,” said Adam Lamb, Director of Dining Services. “Stage 2 rollout should be 15-20 days after evaluating business levels and resident feedback on menu items offered,” Adam added. “We’ll be taking the concept of take-and-bake pizzas – extrapolated to an entrée – using an oven-proof dish, where it’s seared off and ready to go.”

Deerfield will also offer a Recipe of the Week concept, where a recipe is printed off and there’s a tray with all the components in individual Cryovac bags for an entrée. At stage 2, we’ll be selling raw components – like shrimp, chicken breast, and other meats – so it’ll be a cross between a deli and a meat market. Then at stage 3, we’ll reintroduce our made-to-order service and resume our operation as it was pre-COVID. We have set up these phases and stages in our operating system so that if conditions worsen with the virus, we can always go back to a previous phase.
