“We think that Deerfield and Asheville’s Habitat for Humanity are a match made in heaven. Both of our organizations focus on housing and building a sense of community. Our missions are aligned as well. We’re both faith-based and we’re both interested in making an impact not only within our organizations but in the community at large,” said Michelle Wooley, Director of Philanthropy at Deerfield.

In this video, AAHH Executive Director Andy Barnett and Construction Services Director Paul Reeves discuss aging in place alongside Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community, featuring Habitat’s first two Aging in Place (AiP) homeowners Ann and Kay. Deerfield, and its newly formed Charitable Foundation, made a deep commitment to affordable housing by providing the seed money to launch Habitat’s AiP Homeownership Program and to fund 8 AiP units in Habitat’s newest neighborhood, New Heights.
“I had given up hope that I would ever be able to buy a house. I saw this program as a way to have a place where I could age in place in a safe community. I am going to be a first time homeowner at 60,” Ann said.
