Deerfield Welcomes Betsy Baumgarten as New Chaplain

Betsy Baumgarten is an Episcopal priest who comes to Deerfield by way of Arkansas. During her 15 years of ministry, Betsy has been the rector/vicar of multiple congregations, served as an Executive Director of a camp and conference center, and been the chaplain of an Episcopal Day School. Originally from Duluth, Minnesota, Betsy attended St. Olaf College and then Virginia Theological Seminary. While at seminary, she met her husband the Rev. Robert Wetherington, who is originally from North Carolina and just became the new Rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Asheville.

Betsy and Robert have two children, Emily (11) and George (8) along with three dogs, two cats and two hermit crabs. Betsy says, “I enjoy camping, hiking, baking, being crafty, spending time with my family, and celebrating Scotland. I love being challenged to grow personally and I enjoy deep conversations around theology, social issues…and organizational leadership. I value meaningful relationships and believe they are at the core of ministry.”
