While schools are still closed for the summer, volunteers at Deerfield want to be sure that local children in need will be ready to head back in August. Each year The Deerfield Charitable Foundation collaborates with United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County to raise money for school supplies. This year Deerfield raised funds to provide backpacks filled with school supplies to 310 children.
Filling those backpacks personally brings a lot of joy and nostalgia to Deerfield residents who gather each year to fill the packs. This year an amazing team of 30 volunteers zipped through 150 backpacks and filled them with supplies in half an hour. The other 160 packs will be filled by community volunteers and distributed to to area children.
