The Spirituality of Aging

The Spirituality of Aging by Jeannie DuBose, MS was presented by Deerfield’s Mature Wellness Initiative. Jeannie is the author and illustrator of the award-winning Tending the Fire: The Story of a Marriage and The Mother Daughter Dance. The presentation explored the gifts of aging and Elderhood with the Deerfield community to “spark the curiosity of the soul” and prompt introspection and conversation.

There is no denying it — the process of aging brings assaults on our vanity and inevitable losses. However, there is good news: while we live in a society which extols youth, we are also living in an era where people in the second half of life have more possibilities than ever before. In this workshop, we will explore losses and opportunities which surface as we age and contemplate strategies and practices for how to make this phase of our lives the most generative and satisfying yet.

An experienced facilitator and retreat leader, Jeannie works with a variety of clients and a host of women’s groups and faith communities. A graduate of Vanderbilt University, she received a masters in counseling psychology from Georgia State University and a certificate in spiritual formation from Columbia Theological Seminary.
